Press Release
In the wake of recent far-right riots that have shaken the community of Liverpool, Faith Associates were invited by Abdullah Quilliam Mosque to attend a community briefing and security event with the community. This gathering aimed to address the concerns of local Muslim communities and to foster a spirit of cooperation and mutual support in the face of rising tensions.
The event attracted a diverse audience, comprising community leaders and local residents. The atmosphere was one of unity and determination, as participants shared their experiences and insights on enhancing community safety. The briefing was organized to discuss strategies for improving security in and around mosques, as well as to provide community members with practical advice on how to safeguard their places of worship amidst growing fears of extremist violence.
We back through the timeline of events during the summer riots, discussed the lessons learned and this will be developed into a strategy and model which not only the community in Liverpool can benefit from, but also others across the country.
The recent riots, which were fueled by inflammatory rhetoric and divisive politics, have left many in the Liverpool community feeling vulnerable and on edge. The community briefing served as a vital platform for the local Muslim community to express their concerns and to outline their expectations for support from local authorities and organizations.
During the event, Faith Associates CEO, Shaukat Warraich, engaged in constructive dialogue with community members. We listened to their fears regarding personal safety and the security of mosques, and we were moved by stories of resilience and hope within the community. Faith Associates through the Mosque Security project outlined measures being implemented to enhance community safety. We emphasized the importance of reporting incidents of hate and spoke about the ongoing efforts to increase trust building between law enforcement and the community.
Faith Associates together with the Abdullah Quilliam Mosque and Liverpool Mosque Regional Network endeavour to support these efforts by encouraging community members to participate in safety initiatives and by facilitating workshops that promote awareness and preparedness. We highlighted our commitment to providing resources for education on community resilience, empowering individuals to take proactive steps in safeguarding their local spaces.
